I was, uh, doing some ‘research’ and I came across this joke. They named a street after Chuck Norris but had to change its name right away.

1
(thinking OMG, another bad joke, here we go!) OK, why did they have to change its name?

2
Nobody was willing to cross Chuck Norris. Haw haw haw!

1
OMG, that is terrible, really. Look, do you have anything worthwhile to talk about or are we just faffing around?

2
Whaddaya mean? All these Coffee Conversations are faffing around. Don’t pretend otherwise.

1
Well, there is that. Even if we throw in some serious fact stuff we are still entertaining ourselves, really. But daylight savings time ending on Saturday is serious stuff, no?

2
OMG so not. How can any half-thoughtful person think changing the clocks by an hour twice a year makes sense? That just says they who set the time were ‘influenced’ by business/farming years ago and we are still slaves to that time and those businesses/farms (which probably don’t even exist anymore). So we were doubly enslaved, but I have to admit it’s pretty easy to go along with and that is the rub. Small demands are easy to accede to and yet, over a period of time, we lose little by little until there is not so much left.

1
Wow, for faffing around, you sound pretty serious. But I admit it would be hard to find one person outside of congress who actually thinks this is a great idea. It’s congressional inertia, a body tends to keep doing what it is doing (or not doing) if unaffected by an external force. That is fine for physics but not so good in government (or individuals). Even some European countries which are supposed to have a highly educated population go along with this silliness.

2
I get it, AHA. So if we had ‘Daylight Savings Time Riots’ then it would probably end and we’d all be like Arizona, which does not recognize it. And inertia is why you want to go somewhere else later this year. You are ‘afraid’ of boredom and going somewhere new is good for 6 months to a year. You fear becoming INERT! AHA and AHA again.

1
Um, you got me, twice. Give me someplace that I don’t know, to learn about, to explore, TO BE ALIVE. First we gotta get past all these expenses, though, like my dentist needing a new BMW.

2
Oh, she does not! Her curent car is fine. But yes, first we take care of business. Now, are you going to answer my questions about galvanic corrosion? You wrote a monograph some years ago when you were busy proving the reason for some failures. Remember?

1
Yes, I remember how that transpired. Did you know if you put your hoard of sterling silver and some stainless steel pans in a dishwasher and ran it, the stainless would come out with corrosion, just that quick?

2
Wow, I didn’t know. Good thing we don’t have any stainless pans, sterling silver or a dishwasher, for that matter.

1
Yes, yes it is. Well, I’ll explain it all next time, OK? And why don’t you add a flower picture right here?

2
Uh, OK. You know that any multi-petaled yellow flower of a certain shape and with a center ‘eye’ can correctly be called a ‘sunflower’ in general terms, right?
