Let me go over this again, OK?

Fine, whatever.

If one wishes to make 50% profit, one must double the cost. If one wishes to mark something at 150% of cost, one will only make 33.3% on each item. Similarly, if you want to save money over time, let’s say $1,000, it is $100/month for 1o months or $50/month for 20 months. It is not, however, $75/month for 15 months as one might suppose, both numbers being half way between. Just because it falls in the middle does not make it so. 75X15 is 1125.  It’s $66.66 for 15 months or 13.3 months at $75.

So…..you are telling me that percentages and statistics lie? That they are not reality?

1
In a nutshell, they are a different reality and that is why some (governmental and political types come to mind) like to use percentages and statistics, because most people don’t do the math in their heads, they assume that those numbers translate to real life, but they don’t, not in the way they think of them……I remember working for a business once that wanted to make 50% on sales, so they marked all their stuff at 150%. It was bizarre…….I tried to explain, no wonder so many small businesses fail. 90%, I think.

You’re just going on about this so you don’t have to talk about the fortune teller we were talking to yesterday….

1
Whatever….She’s pleasant to talk to and from the Holy Cross neighborhood, that’s where she grew up but now she thinks it’s not very safe. I’d say she’s right too. She isn’t like those people from the mesa outside Taos that sit under a pyramidal structure or wear a foil hat to block alien spying, you notice. She tells fortunes for a living. Two more years, she said, and done…

Now, just post the totally unrelated to any of this photo, OK? That’s why we are here, remember?

Oh, yeah, right.  OK. Here goes. End of December in New Orleans, winter weather. It didn’t get much above 80 degrees yesterday, if I recall…..supposed to cool off the next few days though…..and already is a bit, rainy too………
